Granting Google Search Console access

Steps
- Sign in at
search.google.com/search-consolewith an account that has Owner on the property. - Select your domain property.
- Click Settings.
- Click Users and permissions.
- Click Add user.
- Enter
admin@laurenmilligan.pro. - Set permission to Full user.
- Click Add.
Why Full user, and not Owner
Search Console offers three levels:
| Level | What it allows |
|---|---|
| Restricted user | Can view most data but cannot use the tools we need: URL inspection, submitting sitemaps, or linking to Google Ads |
| Full user | Can view all data and use those tools, but cannot add or remove users |
| Owner | Can do everything, including managing users and verification |
Full user is the right level. Please do not grant Owner. Owner control over verification and user management should stay with you, and nothing in this engagement requires it.
Which property, if there is more than one
Search Console properties come in two forms, and you may have either or both:
- Domain property, shown as
yourdomain.comwith nohttps://prefix. Covers every subdomain and both http and https. If this exists, it is the one to use and it is the only grant needed. - URL-prefix property, shown with the full prefix, for example
https://www.yourdomain.com/. Covers only that exact prefix.
If only URL-prefix properties exist, there may be separate ones for the bare domain, the www version, and any subdomains such as a blog. Grant Full user on each that appears in the list, and tell us which ones you found. The answer itself is useful, because it tells us how the site's organic footprint is actually being measured today.
If no property exists at all, tell us. Creating and verifying one is straightforward, we can walk you through it, and it is rarely urgent in the first week.
